About Dr. Bauer
Dr. Bauer provides care across a broad range of general surgery, including abdominal, incisional and inguinal hernias; gallbladder disease; bowel and colon conditions; heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD); hiatal and paraesophageal hernias; and a variety of skin and soft-tissue conditions.
She also has a particular interest in caring for patients who continue to experience problems following bariatric surgery. Symptoms and conditions such as chronic abdominal pain, persistent heartburn, weight regain, marginal ulcers or internal hernias may require careful evaluation of a patient’s previous operation, current symptoms and individual circumstances.
For Dr. Bauer, the goal is not simply to identify a procedure. It is to understand what is causing the problem, explain the options clearly and determine what course of care makes sense for the individual patient.
Her surgical background includes advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. She completed her General Surgery internship and residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, followed by fellowship training in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Geisinger Medical Center.
Dr. Bauer also served for 13 years in the United States Navy, including two ship-board deployments in support of Combined Task Force 151. Her military service and extensive surgical training helped shape the disciplined, thoughtful approach she brings to patient care today.

Complex Care After Bariatric Surgery
Patients who continue to struggle after bariatric surgery may need more than a simple answer.
Weight regain, chronic abdominal pain, marginal ulcers, internal hernias and persistent or refractory heartburn can occur months or years after a previous bariatric procedure. Determining why often requires understanding the original operation, the patient’s current anatomy and symptoms, and how those factors fit together.
Dr. Bauer has a particular interest in evaluating these patients and helping them understand what may be contributing to their symptoms and whether additional treatment or surgery is appropriate.
Her advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery provides an important foundation for evaluating these often-complex cases.
